NORDIC CUP 2020
Denmark host Germany and Finland.
After a successful full week of 50 over and t20 fixtures playing Norway’s senior side, no fewer than 22 players were given opportunities to showcase their skill in both formats of the game.
A squad of 15 players, (large squad due to individuals not being available for every game) has now been selected for 2 t20 friendlies and 6 t20 international matches to be played in Svanholm park from Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th of August.
Whilst the exact match day fixtures are yet to be finalized there will be 3 games per day on the 25th, 26th, 27th where each team will play 2 matches per day. On the 28th there will be 2 games which includes a final in the morning and a lunch time fixture.
Match timings on the 25th,26th,27th are 10am, 1.20pm and 4.40pm. On the 28th 10am and 1.20pm but could be subject to change depending on teams travel arrangements that day.
With a number of Denmark’s national squad members unavailable for work reasons, this has given other members of the squad a great chance to push themselves ahead of the queue with hopeful strong performances in the Nordic cup, which in turn will give them a great chance of being selected for upcoming ICC events
Leading the squad and making his return to the t20 format after a brief hiatus and alongside Hamid Shah as Denmark’s premier batsmen, is Freddie Klokker. Freddie has an outstanding record for Denmark in the t20 format and we very much welcome his return.
Also making their returns to the squad after different periods of absence are Saif Ahmed, undoubtably won of Denmark’s most talented players and a strong performer especially with the ball in hand for Denmark. Aftab Ahmed, who is one of Denmark’s most dangerous ball strikers and feared t20 player alongside his experience with the ball is a very welcome addition to the squad.
Shangeev Thas and Saad Ahmed 2 of Denmark’s best fielders and are batsmen who are very suited to the high intensity demands of t20 cricket, make their returns to the National side. Saad especially deserving his comeback after impressing with the bat for his new club KB this season.
Adeel Akhter’s selection will probably raise eyebrows but what Adeel brings to the squad as a whole package in t20 cricket is a batsmen who plays spin well, very busy with his rotation of strike, an excellent runner between the wickets and one of the best fielders in the country who will save valuable runs in the field
The remainder of the squad is made of players who have been involved heavily with the National squad throughout the last few years, Nicolaj Damgaard, Oliver Hald, Lucky Malik, Jonas Henriksen, Delewar Kahn, Monty Singh, Hamid Shah, Anique Udin and Absar Kahn who has featured previously for Denmark in a number of Friendly games makes his first big tournament debut.
Whilst a few big names such as Mads Henriksen, jino jojo and Wahab Hashmi amongst a few others, are missing from the squad, the team management and squad members will be expecting to win the Nordic cup as this is a young and dynamic group added with some experience heads that fits most if not all basis when it comes to t20 cricket at associate level.
